With the outbreak of COVID-19 leaving many questions unanswered in the real estate space, it’s only natural to be feeling a little uncertain.
We’ve created this page to answer our most asked questions about buying, selling, renting and investing with Prudential Real Estate at the current time – but be sure to get in contact with us if you haven’t found what you’re looking for!
General
Can I still book an appointment to come into the office?
At the current time Prudential Real Estate remains open for business in a remote capacity. That is to say, our doors are ‘closed’ but our business is not. Our team is currently working outside of office premises and are committed to providing the same quality of service under new regulations. In order to mitigate the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of our staff and community, we are only providing private appointments where absolutely necessary, but are still contactable via phone and email should you have any questions.

Where can I find the latest COVID-19 updates for information relating to my property?
If you are currently a client with Prudential Real Estate, your agent will keep you up-to-date with any changes you need to know about your property. We have also established this page, which we are updating regularly with the latest government advice and regulations relating to property. Any further information relating to COVID-19 health and safety can be found on this page.
Selling
Can I still sell during COVID-19?
Absolutely! We’re still helping lots of sellers every day to achieve the best possible outcome in current circumstances – in fact, we’ve managed to sell quite a number of properties over the last few weeks. Despite government restrictions on open homes and auctions, it’s still possible to achieve great results for your property with buyers active and on the lookout online.
How can I arrange an agent to assess or value my property
Under current social distancing rules you can have one visitor at your property so an agent could visit your property to assess its current value as has always been the case, however, technology provides us with a better idea.
We have devised a way to conduct a market appraisal of your property virtually, online, without the need for an agent to visit your property.
In addition, when it comes time to appoint a Prudential Agent to sell your property agreements can now be signed online rather than having to meet and deal with paper agreements.
Call your nearest Prudential Real Estate office today to find out more.
Is it a good idea to sell right now?
Our advice remains the same: sell when you are ready to sell. If that’s now, we’ll help you get there. Have a chat to us about what your property needs are, and we’ll be able to advise on how best to market your property. Currently, prices remain steady and media reports of prices declining are untrue in our local marketplace
How can buyers inspect my property?
Though open homes have ceased under recent government regulations, buyers can still inspect your property by booking a private inspection – this is the old-fashioned method of an agent showing one buyer at a time through your property. Anyone who wishes to inspect your property will, naturally, be subject to a health and safety check prior to entering the property, and must adhere to strict hygiene and social distancing regulations.
How will Prudential Real Estate market my property?
Through digital and cloud-based systems, we’re adequately equipped at Prudential Real Estate with resources that smaller agencies don’t have access to. Buyers will be able to view your property through professional photos, virtual walk-through tours and live video streaming if required, on channels that include our website, social media, external real estate websites and directly to our extensive databases, with buyers who are actively looking for a property right now.
Buying
I’m interested in buying a property, how can I inspect it?
We’d love to show you! If you would like to see one of our properties, please get in contact with the selling agent – their contact details will be available on the property listing page, or you can also search for their details here. Please note that Prudential Real Estate strictly adheres to government regulations and as such, we can organise a virtual tour from the safety of your home if you are currently in isolation. As open homes are currently no longer permitted, we can offer a private viewing to inspect the property after a health and safety check.
Renting as a tenant
Can my landlord terminate my tenancy during COVID-19?
The NSW Government has said agents cannot evict a tenant at the moment but we are yet to see the actual terms of such a regulation. In the meantime all the terms of the tenancy agreement remain and so tenants should pay rent and comply with the agreement.
Two questions that remain unanswered by Government at this stage are, “What happens when a buyer purchases a property with a tenant – can the tenant be made to move out as would normally be the case?”, and “What happens if a property owner wants to move back into their rented property – can they ask an existing tenant to move out?”
What do I do if I’m struggling to pay my rent?
If you are currently experiencing financial hardship, we advise to get in contact with your agent as soon as possible. You may be eligible for various types of government assistance – see here for more information
Can I still inspect a property to rent?
As open homes are currently not permitted under government regulations, we can provide you with a link to a virtual walk-through tour to view the rental property that you are interested in. We invite you to get in contact with the property manager who can answer any questions you may have about the property, and who can provide you with the next steps should you wish to apply for it. Private inspections are limited to a case-by-case basis after a health and safety check.
Renting as a landlord
How can I arrange to rent out my property?
Prudential Real Estate has devised a way to assess the current value of your property virtually, online without the need for a face-to-face meeting as is normally the case.
And when it comes time to appoint a Prudential Agent to rent your property agreements can now be signed online rather than having to meet and deal with paper agreements.

Investing
I’m struggling to make my mortgage repayments, what do I do?
If you are experiencing financial hardship, we advise you to get in contact with your bank. Most banks have introduced measures for customers to pause their loan repayments for up to six months. You may be eligible for various types of government assistance – see here for more information
Can I terminate my tenant’s lease during the COVID-19 crisis?
This is a grey area at the moment. We are hoping to hear from the State Government this week to help clarify various parts of the Residential Tenancies Act which will answer this question specifically
